A married duo from Austin, Texas, we’ve been traveling the globe together since 2014. We share a passion for good food, a slower pace of travel, naps, anything chocolate, soccer, and Italy.
Over the years, we’ve refined our travel style, but two things have always remained consistent: we plan our trips around meals, and we do as much—or as little—as we feel like (even if that means not seeing everything). After honeymooning in Italy, we knew we wanted to return and explore every region of this beautiful country.
Slow Food Travelers was born from two ideas that changed the way we experience travel: Slow Food and Slow Travel.
The Slow Food movement began in Italy in the 1980s and celebrates good, clean, and fair food—something that made us appreciate the hours, days, months, and even years of care that go into the meals and wine we enjoy. We’ve come to love long, leisurely meals, seasonal ingredients, and the stories behind every dish.
Slow travel is exactly what it sounds like: traveling at a slower pace. We first experienced it on our first trip to Italy together, when we learned what la dolce vita was all about—savoring simple daily pleasures like great food, beautiful surroundings, and time with each other.
This mindset has shaped everything we do. It’s not about rushing from city to city or trying to see it all, but savoring the meaningful moments that help us truly understand the places we visit. As we explore new destinations and return to old favorites, we’ve compiled our top recommendations to help you do the same. We hope the lessons we’ve gathered along the way spark inspiration for your own journeys when you find yourself in these cities in Italy.
Meals, experiences, and slow travel memories from our journeys.
